Reid Ewing plastic surgery and body Dysmorphic Disorder
Reid Ewing plastic surgery
Reid Ewing, the Modern Family actor who played the role of Dylan underwent 8 Cosmetic Surgeries in a span of 8 Years. He admits that he had countless surgeries and that after every surgery there was a need for another to correct the effects of the earlier surgery. He soon discovered that he was suffering from a mental illness in which a person is obsessed with the way he looks and that he had Body Dysmorphic Disorder. After undergoing a number of surgeries, now he felt that he did never need the surgeries at all.
It was way back in the year 2008 that he made his first appointment with a cosmetic surgeon. He was just 19 years old and genuinely believed that one single procedure can dramatically change the way he looks. He was determined that his large cheek implants would address the issues he had with his face. A little later, he underwent the surgery. According to his candid blog post he was “screaming his head off in pain” and spent two week in a hotel hiding from the entire world waiting for the recovery. He was dissatisfied with the results of his first surgery and went back to the doctor several times but he refused to operate on him for another six months period.
He then went to another doctor for the second opinion who suggested him a chin implant. The actor confirmed if the surgery would make him look like he want and the surgeon confirmed the same. Again, the actor underwent another plastic surgery but after noticing that he could move the chin implant under his skin and can easily move it to either side of his face, the actor rushed back to the doctor who operated him. The Doctor accepted his mistake and operated on him again.
The actor attained the age of 20 by then. After that for the next couple of years, Reid Ewing got several more procedures with two other doctors but after each surgery, there remain an issue that could only be fixed with another surgery. He spent a lot of money in these procedures but his looks before and after the procedures could not still satisfy his obsession.
It was in the beginning of the year 2012 that the actor realized that it he was suffering from with body dysmorphic disorder and was addicted to his looks and cosmetic surgery. He had history of depression, eating disorders, and obsessive compulsive disorder that all he needed was the psychology treatment and not the cosmetic procedures. The actor advises, “Before seeking to change your face, you should question whether it is your mind that needs fixing.”
Plastic surgery is not a bad thing at all but an obsession for it is for sure! It helps people who have serious issues that need surgery but going through it out of a hobby is the most horrible thing one can go for.
In the end he concludes, “I wish I could go back and undo all the surgeries. Now I can see that I was fine to begin with and didn’t need the surgeries after all.”
